TouroData: Research Data Catalog of Touro University and New York Medical College

TouroData is the Research Data Catalog for Touro University and New York Medical College. The goal of TouroData is to collect the records of research data produced by Touro and NYMC scholars and hosted in a variety of data repositories. By creating a catalog of where the research data of our scholars is hosted, we can improve the discoverability of their data and encourage collaboration.

TouroData is a part of the Touro Scholar institutional repository.

The below outlines the scope for inclusion in TouroData.

1. The data must be original. You (and any research partners) must be the one(s) who collected or generated the data.
   • Secondary data used in your research efforts should not be submitted. (For example, analyses using CDC, HCUP, or Census Datasets do not qualify for an entry in the Data Catalog.)
2. The data must qualify as Research Data, meaning data that was collected or generated for the purposes of answering a specific research question or questions. 
3. The data must be hosted in an official data repository with a permanent link or DOI. Data hosted on personal servers or computers cannot be added to the catalog, as we cannot link visitors to those places from the catalog. 
   • Data may be hosted on either an open-access or a restricted-access repository, as long as there is a permanent link or DOI to a metadata record representing the data.
4. The research effort that generated or collected the data must have been conducted while you were affiliated with a Touro University or New York Medical College department or school. 

TouroData is NOT a data repository. TouroData cannot host your research data. See below for more information about how to locate a repository.

When looking into a repository for your research data consider whether a generalized repository or subject-specific repository is right for you. Additionally, some repositories allow for restricted access and can store data that includes personal health information (PHI). While others require data to be open-access and cannot support protecting PHI. Meet with a librarian to discuss and help locate the right data repository for your research data.
